Ft. Lewis, Please Sir, May I have some more?

Joint Base Lewis McChord

After Drum, Huachuca and Stewart, it is nice to be back to good old Ft. Lewis. I missed it and now I know why... it\'s awesome!!! JBLM is green and beautiful with the most amazing views of the Puget Sound and scenic Olympic Mountains. Two Children\'s Museums nearby, a new one in Olympia and one downtown Tacoma. Farther out there is one in Seattle and another newer one in Everett. There is the zoo and aquarium in Tacoma, there is the Northwest Track outside of Puyallup, with a great look at many of the animals native to the Pacific Northwest, such as Moose and Otters, and Beavers, Oh My! Throw in a bunch of Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goats and some Bison and you have a rip roaring good day with the kids. Again, farther out there is another Zoo and an additional aquarium in Seattle There is a large water park/ small amusement park just a half an hour away from post. Tons of antique shopping, and site seeing, lots of nature preserves to walk, golf is everywhere. Sports arenas galore. Try the Seattle Underground tour! Try renting a Kayak and paddling the sound or one of the many lakes or rivers. Try river rafting!!!! There are tons of bike/roller-blading trails! Lots of camping! Lots of mountain climbing and trail exploring! There are a few scummy areas, as with most bases but you learn what is what and where to go pretty fast. Cost of living is on the higher end but not on the level of D.C. or Hawaii, or even Miami. Gas prices are a bit on the higher end here as well. The weather is mild, it rains mostly in the winter and spring and is usually nice most of the summer with highs in the eighties at most. Usually around 77 degrees. Drive around, take in the views, shop some unique stores, enjoy the small antique water front towns... before you have to move on.
