We thought we hated Fort Hood, well oh my goodness it doesn't get a whole lot worse that Fort Huachuca. First you drive for hours on end, only to arrive at the oh so glorious pit in the middle of a desert! We hated it almost from the moment we arrived. There was virtually NO shopping off post: a walmart and target and mall that only pretended to be a mall. Our first apt was so small that half of our things ended up in storage (and we lived in an apt complex known for having some of the "largest" apts in the area). The PX is pretty small, the commissary wasn't big either, and at the time we were there, there were 2 shopettes and both of them closed by midnight. Theres one family clinic, no on post ER, and a 2 window pharmacy. Our on post house was a decent size but older than my mother. Only two good things about this base are the school and the doctor who delivered my baby (which was a civilian off post doctor because the on post clinic doesn't handle ob or gyn!)
