The Rainy Base

Fort Lewis, WA

This is my first duty station (my husband's second), as we have only been married for ten months. I like it here. There's tons to do... Seattle isn't far away at all. and there's quite a few malls and shopping centers around. My favorite place to go here is Mt. Rainier. It's absolutely breathtaking. There's also a lot to do on base too. There are community centers and clubs and classes and other things to get yourself involved in. You have to keep yourself busy here because the weather will drive you nuts!! The summers are VERY mild... It only gets to about 80 degrees. But once October hits, it starts to rain and it doesn't stop until May or June. The weather isn't as bad as everyone makes it sound though. The only complaint that I have about Ft. Lewis is that it's very hard for an American civilian to find a job on base. I won't get into that though. For the most part, I like living here. It took us about nine months to get housing so it wasn't bad at all. And the housing could be better, but it's almost free so I can't complain. Hooah Hooah Infantry Wife ~Monica
